This is an ideal introduction to Role Playing for beginners and veterans alike.

One person will run the game as the GM, using a guide with multiple encounters that lead the players through the dusty Hutt-controlled spaceport of Mos Shuuta. You learn the game as you play, each encounter building on the next with different types of skill checks. Touching briefly on the variety of custom dice, players will role a handful based upon their abilities and the difficulty of the challenge. A dice roll does not resolve in a binary 'success' or 'fail' but are instead colored by 'advantage', 'threat', and the powerful 'triumph' and 'despair'. These options create interesting narrative situations, further engaging the players in a collaborative storytelling experience.

The production value of this beginner box is outstanding and the adventure is filled with cinematic Star Wars moments. It was a real winner with my players.

I like this! The dice mechanic is not something I've seen before and I really enjoy it. (I wish I could add, "I don't enjoy having to buy new dice," but that would be a lie.) This is a really interesting way of quantifying the idea of constant improv: Your dice results demand details, and some of them will need to be supplied by the players. But it's in service to the system, so the "GM control" vs "player input" debate isn't quite so front-and-center. Also, the introductory adventure works real I like this! Also, the introductory adventure works really well for gradually introducing the system, and it's something I wish more games had. I'm definitely going to invest in the full book soon--this might even be my next big campaign.

I am taking off one star for the box: It's thin and crappy and all of its stability comes from a cardboard insert. If I'm shelling out for an intro box I want sturdy cardboard, not glossy paper. Still, the contents are worth it.

This book is actually multiple books that are packaged together. The adventure booklet is a good, clean way of teaching the game as you play. While it would be significantly better for the GM to read it before playing, it is conceivable that a group could open the box and play within 15 minutes using only this book and the included dice.

The other book contains the rules in a more formal and thorough presentation. It's a slower read, and I believe that there is a mistake in discussing the rules

The other book contains the rules in a more formal and thorough presentation. It's a slower read, and I believe that there is a mistake in discussing the rules for melee combat (I believe there is an errata, but I do not have access to it), but it is also worth reading, particularly if you have played through the opening adventure and still want to play more. Something is nagging me about the Skills chapter that I cannot place, but they openly admit that the list in this beginners' game is not exhaustive of all situations, so in all likelihood whatever I'm sensing is minor and fringe.

Also included in the beginner game are premade characters with backstories and the tools to advance their story and mechanics, some special dice, and a set of maps and tokens for those who don't do well with Theater of the Mind play.

Good beginner set. I think I like the Age of Rebellion box better (but that's on theme, not bc it's a totally different and better box). The adventure is fun and teaches the system well, and the Rules Reference doesn't cover everything (but does cover most of what will show up or be relevant, including items in the downloadable supplement. The box itself is a bit flimsy, but the contents make up for it.
Good introduction to a fast-paced fun game.
Big plus: the box contains a set of dice needed for the game which are pretty expensive if bought seperately!

Seems like a good introduction into the system and roleplaying in general. The scenario included is very linear, but that's expected from an entry-level set. Will hopefully run it soon and confirm this initial good impression. Seems like a good introduction into the system and roleplaying in general. Excellent starting point for the Star Wars RPG: the story is standard fare but beautiful maps are included.

It was fun and relaxed to run the adventure with my friends. It anticipates your needs and provides guidance to keep the game running smoothly.
